The elections are behind us and our legislators in Washington, DC and Austin are ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work. Congress starts its new session on January 3, 2013, and the Texas Legislature begins on January 8. Be ready to take action by attending NCJW Texas’ Day on the Hill.

Expand your knowledge of NCJW Texas’ key issues and hone your advocacy skills by attending NCJW Day on the Hill in Austin on February 18 – 19, 2013. Whether you are a seasoned activist or an interested novice, Day on the Hill is for you. You will acquire skills to inspire action on critical social justice issues and network with like-minded individuals from around the state. With so many newly elected officials in Austin, this is the time to meet them and their staffs and to learn their views.

The program will start that Monday (Presidents’ Day) with registration at 12:30 p.m. and the program begins at 1:00 p.m. Workshops are designed to give you in-depth knowledge of our issues and will feature speakers who are experts in the areas of food insecurity, immigration, separation of religion and state.

The day will end with a reception and dinner and will include award presentations to Janet Neuenschwander, Belief in Action; Senator Wendy Davis, Woman Who Dared; and State Board of Education Member Thomas Ratliff, Texas Trailblazer.

Tuesday morning will begin with a briefing at the Capitol, and then it’s off to visit our legislators. We will brief them on our priority concerns. Visits will end mid-afternoon so everyone should be home in the early evening.

Registration deadline is February 8, 2013. The cost of the program, including Monday night’s dinner, is $80.
